The optical river bathymetry toolkit

چکیده
Spatially distributed information on water depth is essential for many applications in river research and management and, under certain circumstances, can be inferred from remotely sensed data. Although fluvial remote sensing has emerged as a rapidly developing subdiscipline of the riverine sciences, more widespread adoption these techniques been hindered by lack accessible software. The Optical River Bathymetry Toolkit (ORByT) fills this void providing standalone package mapping passive optical image ORByT interface enables end users to import images field-based measurements, create refine masks, perform spectrally based retrieval via an Optimal Band Ratio Analysis algorithm. resulting bathymetric map exported file, point cloud, and/or cross section; thorough accuracy assessment also incorporated into workflow. In addition, image-derived estimates subtracted surface elevations obtain bed suitable input hydrodynamic model. Potential must bear mind inherent limitations sensing: reliable bathymetry only clear-flowing, shallow streams; approach not appropriate turbid, deeper rivers.

Spectrally based remote sensing of river bathymetry
This paper evaluates the potential for remote mapping of river bathymetry by (1) examining the theoretical basis of a simple, ratio-based technique for retrieving depth information from passive optical image data; (2) performing radiative transfer simulations to quantify the effects of suspended sediment concentration, bottom reflectance, and water surface state; (3) assessing the accuracy of s...

متن کاملA GIS framework for describing river channel bathymetry
Detailed bathymetry data are collected on short reaches and are usually not available for the entire stream network at a regional scale. By using the field data collected for a reach along the Brazos River in Texas, a geographic information system (GIS) framework for describing river channel bathymetry at regional-scale is presented. The framework is based on deriving relationships among differ...
متن کاملRiver bathymetry from conventional LiDAR using water surface returns
LiDAR–based DEMs are almost essential when it comes to high resolution floodplain modelling. Conventional LiDAR does not penetrate water bodies and additional bathymetric measurements are necessary to complete any parts of a DEM which were under water at the time of the LiDAR sortie. Bathymetric data collection is time-consuming, expensive and it requires careful processing to correctly interpo...
متن کاملPerformance Assessment of High Resolution Airborne Full Waveform LiDAR for Shallow River Bathymetry
We evaluate the performance of full waveform LiDAR decomposition algorithms with a high-resolution single band airborne LiDAR bathymetry system in shallow rivers. A continuous wavelet transformation (CWT) is proposed and applied in two fluvial environments, and the results are compared to existing echo retrieval methods. LiDAR water depths are also compared to independent field measurements. In...
